Students meet to prepare for trip to Tanzania

2014-05-21 18.53.08Our 2014 class of Chocolate University students are preparing for the experience of a lifetime.

In less than 2 months, they will accompany Shawn on an origin trip to Tanzania to learn first-hand about Direct Trade, social responsibility and work on community development projects with local cocoa farmers and students.

  1. I just read Shawn’s blog post on HP (via link from e-mail newsletter). I am so encouraged, and as usual, inspired by what y’all do here with Askinosie Chocolate.

My husband and I own a small coffee roasting business in which we, too, visit our farmers at origin. We had a similar, and quite disappointing experience when we worked out an exciting picking experiment. Suffice it to say, we too, are trying to improve the direct relationships and trade, despite challenges such as these, of some of the most highly-valued goods in the U.S. such as coffee and chocolate! I’m so excited to try the new Tanzania bar from Mababu. Best of luck and safe travels for the next Chocolate University crew!
